We Love to Craft and Teach

We are two sisters. Darlene Abshire and Rhonda Dexter. Our mother started us on crafts as toddlers. Darlene drifted toward painting as her main focus, although she has tried her hand at various crafts through the years. Rhonda is more eclectic as she prefers to keep trying whatever strikes her fancy. The most treasured crafts have been drawing, needlework and pyrography. Darlene has hosted parties for many direct sales companies. Rhonda is a teacher at heart. Come join us to make an item to show off in a fun environment intended primarily for relaxation and fun.

Our Instructors

DARLENE

“I’m Darlene, the older sister…” by a whole eleven months! Mom made our clothes when we were young and dressed us alike. So most people thought we were twins. We may not look like twins anymore but we still act like sisters. We are young at heart and our differences complement each other.
You may have a class with just one of us—but the other will be helping in some other way in the background.
My desire is to help you paint a picture and have fun doing it! To help each person one on one as they need it. As well as designing something interesting to paint that doesn’t require complicated techniques. Paint parties are for someone who has never painted before. Or someone who paints for a hobby, that just wants to have a good time with a small group. Before Covid, I had paint parties. I’m comfortable in this setting and want you to be too.

I have also worked at West Town Mall personalizing
gift items for people. Years ago when the Noid was around at Domino’s I painted him and the giant domino on their wall. I’ve also painted murals on school walls.
Even though I never went on to college or Art School I can still help you paint. Come join us at the Chicken Coop.

RHONDA

Hello everyone, so glad you stopped by. I’m Rhonda, the bratty baby sister. I’m a cut-up who can be very serious. I have created crafts my whole life. Mom started us on crafts as tiny little girls to keep us quiet so our very sick baby brother could relax and get better.
I have done many, many crafts, but I have very little formal training. I took art as required in school, and later to get my teaching degree at Tennessee Tech University. Wood burning or formally pyrography became my thing about 2010 with a piece of pallet wood (oops, toxic to burn) and a doodle of the Tasmanian devil from Looney Toons. I had at that point lost so much feeling in my hands I could no longer do the needlework I loved to do, or make jewelry.
Teaching is my biggest passion. I have taught children in all church settings, for almost 40 years. I taught adult medical classes at a Business College for four years. I worked as a Medical Laboratory Technician and trained many people on various analyzers. I have an Elementary Education degree from TTU but due to health issues I was never able to teach in a school. So here I am combining both of the things I love, creating and teaching. I hope y’all come let me inspire you with a love for burning things.
